Anyone know of a good cutting-edge prog house scene? It seems like Detroit/Berlin/Stockholm are techno towns, SF does deep house, LA does west-coast house, Chicago does hard house, a number of cities have a good breaks/DnB scene going right now... is there anywhere on the globe where prog house is the be all, end all?

Re: prog house towns
Fri, February 6, 2004 - 7:04 PMLA has a bit of the prog-house vibe. Spundae@Circus Disco usually has good talent at least two nights a month. Geez, that does sound kind of sad... -

Fri, February 6, 2004 - 7:39 PMyeah, prog is falling a little out of style... maybe all we prog heads should move to some smaller city and start corrupting it... peace -

Re: prog house towns
Fri, February 6, 2004 - 9:31 PMI think the issue is with genre confusion. Most folks probably don't know what "progressive" means. Hell, I probably have my own fantasy. If applied to bands or DJs, you'd have to include Steve Lawler, Hybrid, Tiga, Architects of Sound to name a few that define unique fringes of the style; each sounds *way* different from another, but all have a richness to their approach. I think of it more as pushing the boundary or defining it than following it. Is it getting tired, or is D&B just more popular? -

Sun, February 8, 2004 - 9:13 PMIt's not totally out of style in SF. Spesh still spins lots of prog house & prog trance, so you can expect to hear some at Qoöl. -

Re: prog house towns
Mon, February 9, 2004 - 10:29 AMI'd say progressive is alive and well in SF. Looq records (SF based label) is putting out some great tracks from Jondi&Spesh, Momu, RnD(), etc. Qool, Opel, Satellite, and Spundae are just a few of the parties that have full progressive line-ups weekly and frequently bring out international talent.
And there is definitely no shortage of DJs. Head over to www.sfunderground.org ... all SF progressive djs that are playing great stuff. And that's the tip of the iceberg! Besides the fact that Jerry Bonham lives here.
But I'm a biased progressive dj that lives and loves SF. -

Mon, February 9, 2004 - 2:07 PMIt may not be the most happening town, but Philadelphia PA. is still pretty strong with their club scene. And on that note Tempe AZ. isnt too bad either. Tempe being a college town and all.
